God has no place in anthroplogy except as a case study. If one is doing a socio-cultural study on religion, great! If one is, say, discussing evolutionary theory or human behavioral patterns that have led to humans being the dominant species on this planet, then no, God is not the answer.

In a 300-level college anthropology course regarding the development of early humans, it is not really proper to bring up Adam naming the animals as evidence of, well, anything. In the same vein, saying that humans have dominated this planet because God told them to is not only foolish in such a class, it's a cop-out. One does not need to put forth any mental effort or even do the assignment for such a response.

I just don't get it. I sort of understood the hardcore fundamentalist Christian in my "Bible As Literature" class, but in "African Prehistory"?
